Encouraging your child to color is a resistive task. With this, you are enabling your child to master the tripod grasp. Coloring means that your child needs to use all muscles in their hand to color. Ways To Remove Crayons Out Of Clothes

Crayons have many benefits for children. But it can be quite painful to see crayon stains in their clothes afterward. Well, you can say goodbye to crayon stains forever! These four ways of removing crayons out of clothes will help keep the crayon stains at bay. The ingredients and materials used are regular household items. You should already have one in your home.

Removing Wax Crayon

Wax crayons are the types of crayons that children use in kindergarten. Here are the steps on how you can remove soft crayon stains from clothes.

  • Freeze The Clothes

You have to remove the clumps of crayons stuck in your child’s clothes first. You will risk spreading the crayon stain if you scrape it. It would be best if you place the clothes in the freezer for about 30 minutes.

This will allow the crayon lumps to harden. Afterward, you can remove it without spreading the crayon stain in other areas.

  • Remove The Lumps Of Crayon

Get a small and sharp knife. Use this tool to remove the lumps of crayon off the clothes. You can do this in two ways:

  • You can start by using the pointed side of the tool between the clothes and the lumps of crayon. You can do it by angling the tool in a certain way. You must move the blade in one direction.

Do note that you must clean the tool. You can use this with a clean paper towel. Repeat the process, as necessary.

  • You will notice that there are still crayon stains on the garment. This is okay. The goal of this step is to remove clumps of crayons in the clothes.
  • Use Paper Towels

The next step is you must move the fabric to an ironing board. Put the clothes in between two clean paper towels. Please make sure you put them where you see the stain.

Using paper towels in this process is important. It eliminates the danger of spreading the color to your clothes.

  • Use An Iron

Plugin your iron and set the temperature to warm. You can start to apply pressure on your garment. Do this for about five to ten seconds. Make sure that you lift the iron immediately to remove it.

Here are important reminders you must follow when doing this step.

  • It would be best if you did not trail the iron into the garment. This will spread the crayon stain.
  • Use a warm (and not hot) temperature setting when using your iron. This will prevent you from ruining the fabric.
  • Change the paper towels from time to time. I recommend for you to change the paper towels after every other use. This will prevent the color from transferring back to the clothes.
  • Use A Stain Remover

Throw away the used paper towels. I recommend that you use a stain remover for the next step. This will help eliminate the stain. Make sure that you dab the clothes with stain remover. Do not rub it. Let it dry afterward.

You should see that the color marks start to fade. Do not panic if you still see crayon stains. You can remove it through the normal stain removal processes.

  • Launder The Clothes

You can now proceed to wash the clothes. Start by running the fabric in hot water. You can use bleach and detergent powder to remove the stain. Another option you can use is oxygen bleach.

Removing Crayon Stains That Are Not Washed

  • Use Paper Towels

Get six to twelve paper towels. Stack them in front of the stain. Ensure that you stack them in a single – one on top of the other.

I recommend that you use white paper towels. There is a risk in using paper towels that have a different color or pattern. You would risk passing on the color or pattern from the paper towel to the clothes.

  • Spray The Underside Of The Garment With A Solvent

WD-40 is a dry lubricant. It is great for keeping equipment running without attracting dust, dirt, or oil. Flip to the underside of the fabric. Ensure that you submerge the stained area with the dry lubricant. Remember to do this from the back side. Let it sit for five minutes.

Here are important tips you must consider when doing this step:

  • Ensure that you are doing this on a clear and clutter-free surface. You can work on a table meant for instruments. You can also use the floor in your garage, or an unfinished basement floor. This is to prevent the lubricant from getting on anything else.
  • I recommend you use the WD-40. This is great for removing blemishes.
  • Apply Lubricant To The Front Side Of The Fabric

Flip the garment over. This should expose the stained area. Sprinkle the area with dry lubricant. You can choose not to submerge the fabric this time. Go ahead and press forward immediately. Ensure that the affected part is still stacked over the tissue.

  • Rinse With Dry Lubricant

Rinse the fabric. Make sure you rinse out the lubricant and the crayon marks. You can use cool water while rinsing. Ensure that you wash out the fabric in the back portion. This is to rinse away the excess crayon stains. This is also to remove the excess dry lubricant.

Flip the garment. Wash the garment on the opposite side to remove the stain. Ensure that you also remove any extra dry lubricant in the area.

  • Use Liquid Laundry Soap

Put a small circle of soap on top of the stain. You can use your hand or a clean cloth for the next step. Start rubbing the soap in the crayon.

Ensure that the blemished garment is located on top of the tissue. Do this for a couple of minutes. This is so the tissue can absorb the crayon stains.

Finally, you can rinse the garment in cold water and proceed to the next step.

  • Use Stain Remover

You should notice that the crayon stain is removed. If you still see crayon stains, use a stain remover. Ensure that this dries before proceeding to the next step.

  • Do A Final Wash

Wash the garment with lukewarm water and chlorine bleach. Ensure that you use the maximum temperature to wash your fabric. The last step is to wash out your clothes.

Removing Large Unwashed Crayon Stains

  • Mix Ingredients To Remove Stain

To remove unwashed crayon stains, you can start by putting enough water in your washing machine. Ensure that you use hot water. Mix the following ingredients. They will help remove large crayon stains.

  • 1 cup of borax
  • 1 cup of white vinegar
  • 1 cup of stain remover
  • Two caps of detergent powder
  • 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide

Make sure that you combine all the ingredients. Let the solution sit for a couple of minutes.

  • Submerge The Clothes

Put the clothes in the solution. You can start to stir the clothes using your hand. Do this for the first couple of minutes. Ensure that you put on gloves. This is for your added protection.

You can mix the fabric around. You can do this in rings. Do not only soak the stained part. Ensure that the garment is fully submerged.

  • Let It Soak

Fully submerge the garment in the solution. Let it soak for about sixty minutes. If you have the time, you can also let it soak overnight. This is so the garment can soak the solution more.

  • Rinse The Clothes

After soaking the clothes, you can start rinsing your clothes. This is to wash the solution off the garment. Use warm water to wash out the garment. Let your garment stay at the washing machine.

  • Scrub The Garment

After rinsing your clothes, you can use the hottest temperature to wash your clothes. You can also use laundry detergent to wash your clothes. It is best if you also use chlorine bleach to remove the stain.

Repeat this process as needed. This is to ensure that it will completely remove the stains.

Additional Tips To Remove Crayon Stains

  • Use The Washing Machine

Only do this step if you see that the crayon stains have affected the rest of the clothes. The only option is to re-wash the clothes using the washing machine.

Before you do this, you must check that no crayon lumps are stuck in the machine. Else, the leftover crayon will affect your clothes. Ensure that you scrub off any leftover crayons in the washing equipment. Do this before re-washing your clothes.

  • Use Hot Water And Other Ingredients

Fill the washing machine with water. Make sure that the water is at the highest temperature. Add one cup of laundry detergent. Next, mix it with  one cup of baking soda. Wash your clothes using the washing machine.

After the wash cycle, you can check the clothes. If there are no more crayon stains, then all is well. If color stains are remaining, repeat as necessary.

  • Run The Clothes In Another Wash Using Bleach

If the crayon stains are not removed, you can use bleach. This will help remove the crayon stains from the garment.

Ensure that you can use bleach in your garment. You can also use enzyme laundry products as an alternative. Submerge the garments in bleach for thirty minutes. After which, you can run them in the washing machine again.

Conclusion
